The power of LinkedIn.
Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, TIKTOK, we are all familiar with these platforms, what they do, and who’s using them. Connecting and sharing with the world what we had for breakfast and where we are by taking a selfie has become the norm. But what about our reliable old friend LinkedIn? It may not offer baskets of kittens or teenagers dancing ‘the floss’, but it can generate a huge amount of revenue if you build the right business profile.
Founded in 2002, LinkedIn’s users grew to 260 million members by 2016 before shooting up to 808 million users by January this year. LinkedIn has given people countless opportunities to reach out to those in the world of business and grow a network of leads, share news in their field of work and even advertise and apply for jobs.
The more you engage on LinkedIn, the bigger your business clientele. From here you’re likely to find yourself communicating with people where you can learn, grow and understand business (theirs or your own) across the globe.
So, who are the people using LinkedIn and what’s being said on this business platform that differs from other social media sites like Instagram?
Those added extras
Foundation have discovered that even the simplest of tweaks to your LinkedIn profile can make an incredible difference. Adding a professional photo of yourself makes you 21 times more likely to be viewed, and 36 times more likely to be contacted. So though you may think you don’t photograph like a supermodel, it’s certainly worth considering.
If you are trying to build a strong network on your LinkedIn page, you may be interested to know that blogs posted on LinkedIn account for over 50% of all social traffic driven to B2B company websites.
With consistent and engaging content that draws readers in, and by using the right hashtags, you can really expand your organisation’s views to those in your field and beyond. Facebook and Twitter may have more active monthly users, but LinkedIn clearly separates itself as the go-to for B2B content distribution.
It’s time to engage
With so many people taking advantage of connecting with clients, leads and business prospects on LinkedIn, only three million out of the 360 million are uploading content, enabling their contacts to understand who they are and what they do in more depth. But those 3 million people are certainly doing something right; by creating your profile as a central hub to generate content, you are seen as a more ‘real’ person. Becoming personable will undoubtedly make you more trustworthy and potential clients will be more inclined to stay in contact with you to do business, therefore making your business that much more lucrative.
PureB2b found that LinkedIn is the preferred social network of CEOs. And with over 73% of millennials now in decision-making positions, the platform’s perception has changed from what some people may see as formal, corporate and stuffy, to fresh, innovative and diverse.
So, if you want to make more money and gain connections, get posting, be engaging and reach out to the right people. When your business builds a strong reputation, you will be in demand.
